The Clinton Foundation may have taken donations from contacts she made, but Putin’s friends have indulged in kleptocratic behaviour on a scale that makes any American look positively miserly. Many of his friends from 1990s St Petersburg have fortunes in the hundreds of millions, if not billions, of dollars and Russia has worse inequality than any other major country.
